I am currently in limbo with Chris Haydon (director of CTVT) at the moment, waiting for jpegs and the ok on the leaflet and card before the printing process can occur. He mentioned that he would require about 2000, and next week once the design layout is sorted its time to find a printers.
We need to get them sorted for the 19th of June, as Chris is giving a talk. He said he's been waiting four years for this kind of opportunity so the leaflets need to be right!!

Monday 4th June 2007
Today I went down to Leatherhead to meet the Free Wheelers and Chris Haydon. The Free wheelers are an ambitious theatre company who are keen to expand, they have recently received funding to do so and are keen for a complete rebrand. Chris Haydon really liked the leaflet and as a result is keen to push it through ready for the talk that he is giving on the 19th June. He is sending me the new content on Wednesday, i have been experimenting with a few things we discussed.
The Free Wheelers are looking for a pack, in which there are templates and layouts for postcards, logo, typeface, posters, leaflet and lots of other promotional merchandising. I have been asked to design a cover for a business proposal, which by design will reflect the future image of the company. They have given me a time scale of 4 weeks to do this, as they are aware that I am working on a few things for Chris.

Idea for leaflet
The dandelion is a perfect image to represent the Community TV Trust, It is made up of lots of individual strands abit like a community. The trust brings everyone together and allows the expression of views to a wider audience. Chris spoke to me about a proposal he has put forward, within which he hopes to recieve funding to set up around 60 community scemes around the country following the template in place in Southwark. The template can be represented by the seeds, they are waiting to be set free to spread, grow and flourish.
Here are a few books that I have used to help me with this project:
Grid systems in graphic design, by Josef Muller-Brockmann, 686.MUL
Graphic design school, David Dabner, 741.6 DAB
Design and layout: Understanding and using graphics, David Dabner, 741.6 DAB

Freewheelers Theatre Company
Two new groups have joined Southwark.TV in the last few days - they are The Sassoon Gallery in Peckham and Freewheelers Theatre Company based out in Leatherhead.
Freewheelers have recently won an Arts Council grant to complete a major theatre project called "The Triumph and The Apollo".
Today i spoke to Chris to follow up the graphic design roll that he mentioned in our previous conversation. He told me that the Freewheelers are looking to be rebranded.

Introduction to Community TV
Introduction - BEYOND THE MAINSTREAM
The Community TV Trust [CTVT] promotes the local use of media and new media. Self esteem and general personal empowerment come from participating in local media making. also aiding social inclusion, and cross-cultural understanding in communities. Where Ofcom used to call us 'citizen-consumers' and regulate Public Service Broadcasting (PSB), CTVT sees 'producers' and Public Service Media (PSM). Individuals, groups and schools are increasingly active. In south London they are participating in CTVT's unique community media project, "Southwark.TV" [www.southwark.tv] (see below) - a CMS website where currently fifty schools and community organisations publish their own multimedia, receive basic support in IT, video and multimedia production, attend screenings, work on or participate in occasional TV productions. Thus CTVT is promoting media literacy, active citizenship and social cohesion ... it sounds too good to be true but it is all there.

Public access television in the United States is a form of Citizen media, similar to Canada's Community channel, Australia's Community television and other models of media created by private citizens.
Due to the 1984 Cable Franchise Policy and Communications Act, US cable companies are required to fund local organizations to provide training and access to media technology and cable distribution on the local cable systems. This legislation was intended to enrich communities with the opportunity to produce community-initiated programming and address local issues and concerns on the electronic medium. In its conception, Public access television pertained only to the cable television technology of the times, but many Public access organizations now include television, radio and the internet within the spectrum of communications. Public access television is one type of PEG access, short for Public, Educational, and Governmental, the three traditional structures of access within a municipality.

Today I did some research into community TV and phoned Chris Haydon the director of Community TV Trust. He didnt have much time to talk but seemed keen to help and mentioned that he was currently looking for a graphic designer. I have since emailed him some details and look forward to finding out more.
